The EEG lab performs testing on all ages of children .The EEG (electroencephalogram) is the electrical impulses of the brain transmitted to a computer, which a trained technologist studies during the testing. The test is usually performed for detecting seizure activity but may be used as a diagnostic tool for other reasons. The test is painless. A physician then reads and interprets the test.

EEG telemetry studies are also performed in the lab and these are long studies of between 3 and 6 hours. The child is also monitored on cameras to correlate the described problem with an actual incident. This is also interpreted by the physician.

Evoked potentials (the visual and auditory) are also done in the lab and these are used for diagnostic reasons and are the testing of the brain’s response to known stimulus...the visual to a flashing checkerboard and the auditory to clicking through headphones into the ears. Both entirely painless.

Below you will find downloadable instructions to prepare your child for an EEG.
